National Academy of the Moving Image (NAMI) Is Now

The National Academy of the Moving Image

We changed our name to better reflect the scope and goals of our organization.

Why NAMI?

We're a not-for-profit organization. Our Workshops are designed to provide the intensive technical training that can lead to an industry-level film and/or digital production career. For the aspiring auteur, NAMI provides a supportive and flexible environment that allows you to unlock your creative potential.

NAMI takes pride in our diverse student body and highly-skilled, supportive faculty-mentors.

NAMI offers state-of-the-art production facilities. At NAMI, our production equipment is maintained to the highest industry standards and our classes are kept small. NAMI limits the enrollment in each section.

In each Workshop, NAMI students learn by doing. They are provided with A-Z technical support and hands-on training to complete films of their own origination.

NAMI Workshops are affordable. They provide the ideal cost-effective opportunity for the independent filmmaker to initiate and/or complete film or digital projects and keep abreast with the latest technical advances.

Students enrolled in NAMI Workshops network with filmmakers, writers, cinematographers, directors, and producers in the Chicago-land production community.

NAMI Workshops are held at convenient times during the day, on weekends, and in the evenings. It is recommended, although not required, that NAMI students have some availability outside of the scheduled class times.

NAMI students have the opportunity to work on independent film/digital projects as NAMI Interns, although these placements not guaranteed by NAMI.

seminar

The National Academy of the Moving Image' inaugural seminar was held on January 8, 9 and 10. Everyone who took part was deeply involved in the production.

Read about the seminar

The feedback has been tremendous! Students were extremely happy. Even people who came in the snow and freezing cold weather from Michigan and Wisconsin were very happy they came. We only lost a few students due to weather.

The dedication of the students was unbelievable. In fact, one guy worked all night, came to the seminar and then went back to work. He did this for 3 days. By Sunday, he could hardly keep his eyes open. One gentleman is writing an article for a publication. He said it has to be 500 words but he could go on and on about the seminar. Even a short line appeared in Kup's Column in the Sun-Times on January 20. He is very excited about the Academy. seminar

We are still writing THANK YOU letters to everyone who helped out during the seminar. Please check back here soon for more information on the academy and future seminars.
