We, at SMS, would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very happy Thanksgiving. We hope you will be spending the day with family and/or good friends.
It takes a lot of energy to write a newsletter on a regular basis, whether it’s going out by electronic means or snail mail. What keeps us motivated is the fact that we know people read our newsletters. There is always some type of feedback and we truly enjoying hearing from people, listening to their stories, recommendations and even answering their questions.
On that note, we received a lot of feedback from our last newsletter. People asked for some very important books for their gift list - The American Cinematographer’s Manual (the filmmaker’s bible), the Professional Cameraman’s Handbook, the Camera Assistant’s Manual and the Camera Assistant Handbook, as well as informative books such Camera Terms and Concepts. We assured everyone that those books were available from SMS. In fact on Monday, we received a shipment of Camera Terms and Concepts and by Tuesday, were sold out. We are now awaiting another shipment. We even have the book The Cinema of Adventure, Romance and Terror. If you know someone who enjoys reading, this would make a fabulous gift.
We also received a very impassioned call rather late in the day seeking availability of bags for a growing segment of society - the laptop user. It seems that KATA, gaining popularity day by day for their workmanship and variety of bags has a tremendous laptop bag - PAB-2 . We were informed that this bag can also fit with the LAB-2 creating the Complete Presentation Kit. The laptop bag is a great gift for anyone who carries a laptop computer and is adjustable to fit any size laptop. It doesn't matter what line of work one is in, if protecting your laptop is important, this durable bag is a must. Additionally, it can be connected to the LAB-2 for carrying other presentation pieces or for carrying overnight clothes and accessories. No need to check luggage and you have only one bag.
Another interesting call was from someone who told me to explain about the tax man. The end of the year is when everyone takes a look back at how they did financially. If one did well, it is time to start spending a little of that good fortune on the things that have been taking up space on the wish list. It is better to get that extra light, camera, lens, bag, etc. that you always wanted than to have to give it away in taxes. So I hope everyone did well in ‘99. Grab that wish list and get going.
By the way, it’s also a great time of the year to help all of the people less fortunate than yourself. Help out a little if you can. Believe me, you'll feel great.
Have a great Thanksgiving and keep the feedback coming.
