The Basics of Being a "DP" (Director of Photography)
So you want to be a "DP"! That’s great, but there are many things you need to know.
  • Know the Tools
  • Know "on the set politics"
  • Know the job - Never Bluff
  • Be firm in decision but not stubborn

The above just starts the list of what it takes to be a good "DP". To learn more and be prepared for the future, join veteran "DP", Bill Birch, who will take you through the steps in his class on the subject - THE BASICS OF BEING A "DP"

Meets Tuesdays for four weeks - April 18, 25, May 2 and 9   7:00PM - 9:00PM   $325.00

Basics In Lighting
Creating a mood and following a script is an "ART". Teaching the above, thru to the final print, is all but impossible. Reason being that every individual sees a scene differently viewing it thru his "OWN eyes. However, there are basics in lighting just as in most everything and it’s on those basics that the Director of Photography, Bill Birch, will focus. Areas to be covered - Types of lights, placement of lights, diffusion, balancing a scene, and much more.

Meets Thursdays for four weeks - April 20, 27, May 4 and 11   7:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M.   $325.00

A little trivia -

How did the KATA "Rally Bag" get its name? The founder of KATA named it after his wife, Rally. It must have been lucky for him because the KATA bags are very popular. The Maze Bags (Multi long Bag) can hold an Arri Kit with stands or you can remove the dividers and use it for a tripod. If you are on our mailing list, you should be receiving your KATA catalog within the next thirty days.

O'CONNOR has a five-year warranty on their tripods.

With HDTV becoming more and more popular, so is Super 16. Our Aaton XTRProd is not only in demand for Super 16 but it ranks superior for those hand-held shoots. Whether shooting Regular 16 or Super 16, Aaton is the way to go.

Update on the A-Minima, "Aaton’s low-cost, unobtrusive, high-tech, professional Super 16 mini-cam". "It is designed to promote affordable and enduring high definition film images in a world of medium definition, short-lived video. The A-Minima will spur a revolution in filmmaking for indie features, documentaries, extreme sports and any other project in your mind’s eye. A-Minima will fill the image quality void between DV and 35mm for those productions wavering between the formats of cost. In short, A-Minima will represent the apex of compact, yet thoroughly modern, camera technology." After test marketing several prototypes and making improvements in several areas, Aaton will begin limited production in April 2000.

More information will follow as it becomes available.

Don’t forget April 29th!
