Online Issue #15
April 20, 2000
It has been a while since we last communicated and there is so much going on...
First of all, we want to say "thank you" to everyone who called to wish us luck and who offered to assist us in moving. We truly appreciate it. Man-Sung felt especially blessed that so many of our out-of-town clients offered to travel to Chicago to help us move.
SMS Productions, Inc. and the National Academy of the Moving Image will move the Memorial Day holiday weekend and be officially open for business at our new address, 676 N. LaSalle, Suite 100, Chicago, IL 60610 effective June 1, 2000. We are really excited about this move and look forward to continuing our relationship with each and every one of our clients as well as building new relationships.
Based upon numerous requests, SMS proudly announces that it now accepts the American Express card. We feel that adding American Express to the cards we already accept, which include MasterCard, Visa and Discover is another way of assisting our clients in obtaining the goods and services that they have come to rely on from SMS.
The Truth or Myth? conference scheduled for April 29th is a sell out. We are at full capacity and look forward to a very rewarding morning spent with fellow filmmakers.
Man-Sung and Helena from SMS attended NAB. The feedback from the suppliers exhibiting is still coming in. We will follow up with that in the next NAB report.
There were so many things to see. Carl Zeiss (Zeiss lenses) and Angenieux, two of the most skillful manufacturers of cinema optics, have joined forces to make a quality HD adapter for 35mm prime lenses. Now 35mm film quality for 2/3" HD Cameras.
KATA continues to improve their line of camera bags and other items by announcing a new line of Camera Gloves and Sun-Do Audio Operational Cases for mixers, DATs, etc, plus a new Rain Cover (which fits Canon GL-1/XM-1, Sony VX1000/2000, Sony DSR Pro-100 and the Panasonic AG-EZ-1), Portable Editor Case, Camera Cases ,etc. To make selection easier, they have also made a reference chart. Now you can find your camera or mixer on the chart and automatically see which case they recommend as the best fit.
For Steady Stick users who wish to have the belt on the outside of their jackets or need additional body support, there is a KATA belt with a shoulder harness which is ideal. Best of all, the price on the belt is minimal and other pouches, etc. can be attached to the belt. By popular demand, the KATA now has the Detachable Trolley System This lets you use the trolley separately, use the trolley for more than one case, detach the trolley when you want to store it or replace the trolley easily if damaged.
The INSERTROLLEY IS BEING ADDED TO THE FOLLOWING KATA PRODUCTS - TCCT MULTILONG-1, 1-R, MAZE-4 (COFFIN), PALMS-1,2, PPP-1,2,3, MAZE -1, 2,3 AND BANANA-1,2,3 The trolley is already included in the price of the above mentioned bags. The MCC-2 Case is perfect for the XL-1 camera with all of the accessories as well as all larger cameras with accessories.
For the Canon GL-1 you now have the CC101 case and the RC-13 Raincover.
Moving on, we learned that Tiffen now has a new line of filters. New ND Center Clear Circle and ND Center Clear Ellipse Filters. These were definitely catching people’s attention and the feedback was favorable. There is also Ultra Polarizer with Enhancing all in one filter, as well as an Ultra Pol with 85 and an Ultra Pol with 812. These three filters will be available around mid-June.
Lowel has come out with HMI lights. Now there are 3 innovative HMI/MSR lights: 200, 400, 575 watts. They are based on the design of the popular DP light, have more output than comparable Fresnel HMI’s, use many of the existing DP light accessories, with an equally innovative compact triple output ballast.
Lowel has also introduced Caselite Fluorescent lights. Compact, lightweight, self-contained, rugged, convenient. The case is the Light! Grab it and go. For the pro on the go, the all-in-one Caselites offer your choice of daylight or tungsten color correction in a compact easy to carry fluorescent package.
The NAB convention was packed with software exhibits which we had little opportunity to visit. If anyone has any comments on these exhibits, we can be reached at smsprod@sbcglobal.net.
More information about new products and our move will be coming shortly. In the meantime, if you have not checked out our "Moving Sale" items, please do so www.smsprod.com. We will be constantly adding more and more products. So keep an eye on the site. Additionally, if you don’t see something you need, please give us a yell, we probably have it.
Hope everyone has a great holiday.
