Wow! It's been a busy and exciting few months for SMS.
In June, we attended ShowBiz in L.A. It is a good show for film people. As we attended NAB back in April, we were already familiar with most of the film equipment exhibits. Yet it is still something that we enjoy attending as each visit allows us to concentrate on different areas.
July started out with a bang!
Angenieux, long respected in the industry for their film lenses, has taken their know-how and expertise in the design and manufacturing of film lenses (optics) and transferred it to a new generation of portable lenses for ENG-EFP applications. To make sure they have the "after service" which is so important to any product line -
ANGENIEUX NAMED SMS PRODUCTIONS "OFFICIAL AUTHORIZED SERVICE CENTER FOR VIDEO LENSES SUCH AS ENG FOR THIRTEEN STATES - NORTH DAKOTA, SOUTH DAKOTA, MINNESOTA, WISCONSIN, MICHIGAN, OHIO, INDIANA, ILLINOIS, IOWA, NEBRASKA, KANSAS, MISSOURI AND KENTUCKY"
Long renowned for servicing Angenieux film lenses, Man-Sung has now completed intensive factory training on the ENG lenses. When you purchase a film or ENG lens you can be certain that you have the best "after service" there is. Oh, don't forget to purchase that lens from SMS! Check out additional information about the new Angenieux lenses on our Web Site.
That's right!
SMS now has a Web Site -
http://www.smsprod.com
You can now pick up our catalogs (rental and expendables) on the web. Additionally, you will find information on other products and services and we are still building. We hope this web site will assist you in finding information quickly and efficiently. For everyone who was anxiously waiting for the rental catalog, it is now at your fingertips. Please take a few moments to check out this site. Your feedback is important to us. If you do not have access to the web, you may pick up a copy at SMS.
Additionally, I want to give a few words of praise to SK Web Construction. These guys were terrific. They took my mess and turned it into something.
Have you noticed O'Connor lately? Their tripods keep getting better and better. The new Ultimate 2060 is a mid-sized head perfect for EFP, lightweight studio video, 16mm, super 16mm and lightweight 35mm productions. It balances 65 lb. cameras with a 6" high center of weight. Tilt range 90 degrees to 90 degrees. Smaller and lighter than the 2575 (seven pounds lighter). It was originally designed for studio but O'Connor discovered it was also great for all of the above mentioned. Pan lock is a disc lock (a new feature). Now the teleprompter that hangs below the lens is actually a welcome addition as it helps. It doesn't add extra weight. On the side of the head, we see green for go (move) and red locks in.
The expendables department at SMS stocks an abundance of the most requested items. However, every once in a while we find an item that does not move quickly. Then it is time to sell off the remaining inventory and make shelf space for other items. Right now I have the following items to move -
16mm Guild Kelly calculator - $59.95 remaining stock only
35mm Guild Kelly calculator - $59.95 remaining stock only
SMS stocks many different books relating to our industry. We are always being asked what each book is about, or if we felt it was a good book, etc. In the upcoming issues, we will try to bring to your attention some of the books that we and our clients have felt were worth adding to our library.
There is so much I want to say with very little space to do so. Therefore, I am using the Web to the best advantage. We will also continue to add many features to our site which will provide valuable information to you and your colleagues. Please look for more information to this newsletter on the SMS web site -

Additionally, stay with us for the next big announcement.
Coming later in August....
