TCSTXM-15 Crystal Control for Arri 16-BL

• Superior Performance, Only For New TCS CHT Motor
  • An unprecedented degree of precision and flexibility can now be yours with the TXM-15. Use any gear ratio: the normal U.S. 24:50, the European 25:50, or old U.S. governor motor 24:60. All of the crystal speeds, and all of the externally selected speeds, will be equally accurate. Changeover is accomplished with switches on the circuit board.

    The new CHT motor gives an improvement in speed stability, weight, efficiency and responsiveness compared to the original motors. The TXM-15 has been optimized to work best with the CHT motor, and it will not work at all with original EMP or BLE motors. If you have either of these you must instead use the TXM-19 crystal control unit.

• Improved Specifications
  • Sixteen crystal speeds are included, from 8 to 50 FPS. 60 Hz HMI compatible speeds are nine in number, including 8, 10, 12, 15, 17-1/7, 20, 24, 30 and 40 FPS. 50 Hz compatible speeds are seven in number, including 10, 12-1/2, 16-2/3, 20, 25, 33-1/3 and 50 FPS. For traditionalists TCM has also restored the old sequence by including 8, 12, 16, 24 and 48 FPS. Speed accuracy is ±3 ppm or .0003%.

• External Speed Control Capability
  • The TXM-15 has a WPI (formerly Amphenol) "Tiny Tim" Aaton-compatible 9-pin male receptacle for external control with the TCS Milliframe Controllers. This permits filming from video or computer monitors with control over the shutter bar. For economy, you can also use the TCS Videoframe Controller. A digitally synthesized one pulse per frame output is provided for an external footage counter, or those speed controllers that require it, but it does not correspond to any particular shutter position. Only a screwdriver is required for normal installation in place of the present rear bloop panel. Of course, your BL must have the removable "L" shaped bloop and pilot panel on the rear, and the camera wiring, and the 9-pin Bendix/Amphenol connector, must all be intact. Power input becomes an industry-standard XLR 4-pin type.

• When do you choose it?
  • Select this motor and the companion TXM-15 crystal control unit any time you want a completely modern motor system that is light in weight, highly responsive, capable of running both forward and reverse, and has an optical tachometer that works reliably over a wider range of speeds than does a magnetic one. The TXM-15 and CHT combination minimizes the dreaded "BL flicker" that can be noticeable with other controllers.

    Or, you must use the CHT and TXM-15 if your BL's existing motor is the wrong type for crystal control ("BL" reversing or AC synchronous), or is the right type (BLE or EMP) but the crystal related portion is unrepairable. If you have a BLE or EMP motor in good working order, and price is the primary consideration, you can have basic crystal control by instead using it along with the TCS TXM-19 crystal.

  • All you need is a screwdriver.

• Used only in conjunction with the TXM-15 crystal
  • Gives the full range of speeds, 8 to 50 FPS, on 12 volts DC. Runs forward and reverse. Efficient permanent magnet ball-bearing motor. CNC-machined solid aluminum mounting. The CHT motor has no speeds of its own and will only run in conjunction with the TXM-15 crystal unit. The motor is not harmed by reversed DC polarity, but correct hookup to the BL camera body is essential to prevent damage.

• Can work with any gear set
  • Optimum operation is with the 24:60 gear set, but the 24:50 and 25:50 are acceptable. Switches in the TXM-15 are set according to the gear ratio. The CHT motor is normally sold only in combination with the TXM-15 crystal. If you have been using a previous revision of the TXM-15 that would work with either the CHT, EMP or BLE motor you can upgrade by purchasing the CHT motor alone.
