TCSTXM-24 and TXM-16V Crystal Controls for Bolex EBM, EL, ESM
- TXM-24
- The TXM-24 gives two speeds: 24 and 25 FPS (frames per second.) 24 is used for North America, and 25 is used for Europe. 24 FPS is safe for 60 Hz HMI lights, and 25 FPS is safe for 50 Hz HMI lights.
- TXM-16V
- The TXM-16V gives two speeds: 23.976 and, with camera/motor modification, 29.970* FPS. These correspond exactly to the actual speeds that a Rank or Bosch NTSC film scanner runs at when switched to 24 and 29.97 respectively. These speeds permit double-system audio to be on DAT (digital audio tape,) CD (compact disk,) or Hi-Fi video tape. The audio will hold speed with the transferred video picture without special time code chasing equipment. These speeds are not HMI safe, however.
*Note: Your Bolex camera or motor is probably factory adjusted to accept crystal sync only in the range of about 22 to 27 FPS. An adjusting pot setting (P6 or P106) might be changed to permit 29.970 FPS operation. Most cameras, however, may require camera or motor disassembly for replacing a resistor on the internal circuit board in order to be able to adjust the pot for the higher speed. After adjustment or conversion you should only use the 29.970 crystal speed. Re-adjustment of the pot may be needed in order to stay in sync at other crystal speeds.
- Features
- The models have a Sync Alarm light that illuminates if crystal speed is lost. Speed accuracy is ±10 ppm or .001%.
Besides the attached 7-pin Tuchel plug cable to connect to the camera, the models also have a 7-pin Tuchel receptacle to connect to your EBM's power handgrip when using an external battery, or to connect to your switched-power cable.
