Fi+Z Control

The Fi+Z Control provides Iris, Focus, Zoom and Camera Run functions. Zoom commands are provided by a Micro Force V+F control. All data from the control are multiplexed and transmitted either over a single twisted pair of wires or via a Microwave Wireless Link (ML-1). The unit's high resolution (16 bit) results in incredible smoothness. A unique scale adjustment system makes set-up extremely quick. Any portion of the scale for Focus, Iris or Zoom may be expanded to cover all or part of the full scale of the corresponding control knob. Normal range may be reset at the touch of a switch. A bright LED bar graph displays Zoom position and is readable under all lighting conditions. An optional Remote Iris Box provides a separate control for the Iris function. It is automatically enabled when connected to the Fi+Z. The Fi+Z also provides a universal interface to stop and start film cameras as well as VTR's. The Fi+Z control is powered either through its cable connection to the MDR-1 motor driver, or from the Microwave Transmitter (P/N 4902) when operated in the wireless mode.

DM-1 Digital Motor

The DM-1 Digital Motor combines high power output, ruggedness and high precision. Its right angle drive configuration allows for a simple lens interface. The worm gear set is tapped for very quiet, low backlash operation. Electronic feedback is provided by an optical encoder for maximum reliability. The output gear is .80m cinema standard. Step up gears for meshing with Panavision or Video lenses are also available. The DM-1 motor may be used interchangeably as a zoom, focus, or iris drive. A 15mm mounting rod is fixed to the motor body. Swing arm adapters are available for 15mm, .625", and 19mm rod systems.

MDR-1 Motor Driver

The MDR-1 Motor Driver interfaces the Fi+Z Control with the DM-1 Motors. It provides 3 channels of motor drive, the camera run function for all film cameras and the VTR function for video cameras. Switching electronics have been used for high power efficiency, and extensive filtering has been incorporated to ensure noise-free operation. Automatic calibration to the mechanical end limits of the lenses is implemented in software. Each motor driver channel is torque limited electronically and fused. Motor stall protection is also provided. Power requirements are 22-30 VDC at 0.15A quiescent and 3A peak (all three motors stalled). The Microwave receiver option (P/N 4901) incorporates an integral voltage converter which enables operation from 11-30 VDC.
