Do you want better results with your pictures? Improve your color and contrast? Now XL-1 users can use a 72mm-9 or 75SSLR-9 adapter ring and enjoy the luxury of buying Series 9 filters. Series 9 offers a greater variety of filters, thereby offering you more opportunity to enhance and experiment with your pictures.

The same principle applies for GL-1 users. By using a 58mm-9 adapter ring, you can take advantage of the variety of filters offered in Series 9.

Canon and Fujinon lenses can't use the Series 9 filters but they can take advantage of the 4 1/2 filters by using an 85SSLR-4 1/2.

Tiffen Filters

Superior quality, consistency, and precision engineering make Tiffen filters the overwhelming choice of NASA, film and video production studios and professional still photographers.

Tiffen colors, which are based on the Kodak-Wratten® filter series, are fused between two layers of optical-quality glass which, unlike ordinary dyed-in-the-mass glass filters, guarantees consistent colors every time. This unique lamination process was recognized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which honored Nat Tiffen with an Academy Award for Technical Achievement in 1985. It was the first time in almost 50 years that an award of this stature was bestowed upon a filter manufacturer.

Protective and Ultraviolet Filters

Sky 1-A
Absorbs a significant amount of UV light to ensure sharper detail and is slightly tinted for better colors, useful when shooting in outdoor open shade and on overcast days.

Haze-1 filter
Helpful when photographing mountain and marine scenes, where increased haze threatens to make your photographs indistinct in color and clarity. This filter absorbs greater UV light than a Sky 1-A.

Haze 2A filter
Best when shooting at higher altitudes, where UV light is more prevalent and greater UV absorption necessary.

Clear filter
Made of clear optical glass, protects your lens like a transparent lens cap with no color shift to your image.

Filters for Black-And-White Film

All of these filters can be used on color film for creative color effects.
#6 Yellow Filter
Darkens the sky slightly and adds subtle definition to clouds.

#8 Yellow 2 Filter
Offers the most natural tonal correction possible for contrast in clouds against blue skies, as well as flowers and foliage. Great for landscapes.

#9 Yellow Filter
Offers stronger cloud contrast for landscapes than a #8 Yellow 2 filter.

#12 Yellow Filter
Great for aerial shots when you need to cut the bluish haze from the sky.

# 15 Deep Yellow Filter
Captures dark, dramatic skies in landscapes, marine scenes and aerial photography with more dramatic effects than an #8 or #9 Yellow Filter.

#16 Orange Filter
Creates cloud/sky contrast that exceeds that of the #15 Deep Yellow.

#21 Orange Filter
Useful when you're shooting seascapes and want to punch up contrast, rendering blue tones darker.

#11 Green 1 FilterAn ideal outdoor filter for more pleasing flesh tones, especially suited for portraits photographed against the sky. A universal asset for all scenics -- tonal range maintained while greens are lightened to reveal more detail.

#13 Green Filter
Best for taking indoor photographs under tungsten lighting, especially male portraits. It renders flesh tones deep, swarthy and appealing.

#56 Light Green Filter
Ideal when you want to capture good flesh tones while darkening blue skies.

#58 Dark Green Filter
Lightens foliage considerably and can help you achieve high contrast effects in photo-microscopy.

#61 Dark Green Filter
Best when you want to lighten foliage to a maximum degree.

#23A Light Red Filter
Helpful when shooting objects (not people) and you want to emphasize contrast. Ideal for architecture photography.

#25 Red 1 Filter
Creates dramatic sky effects, emphasizing cloud contrast for landscapes. Use this filter to simulate a moonlit scene at midday (with slight underexposure). With infrared film, this filter yields extreme contrast in skies, turns foliage white and cuts through fog and haze.

#29 Dark Red Filter
Can yield extreme and spectacular sky effects and cloud contrast, causing the most dramatic tonal effects.

#47 Dark Blue Filter
Useful when you want to accentuate haze and fog, creating moody atmospheric effects in landscape and marine scenes.

#87 Infrared Filter
Designed for use with infrared film when you want to transmit only the infrared spectrum. There is no visible transmission.

Enhancing Filters

Tiffen Enhancing FiltersAn excellent choice for increasing interest in red and orange subjects is the unique Tiffen enhancing filter, which creates brighter, more saturated reds, rust browns, and oranges on film, with minimal effect to other colors.

Made of didymium glass, it's ideal for photographs where red, brown and orange subjects should be enriched or appear more intense. Old rustic barns, flowers, fire engines and automobiles, historic brick buildings, earth tone rock formations, strawberries and tomatoes, are some of the many subject possibilities in which a Tiffen enhancing filter can improve the color saturation of your photograph.

For truly spectacular images, try combining the Tiffen enhancing filter with a Tiffen Polarizer. The Tiffen enhancing filter will intensify color in the foreground landscape, while the Tiffen Polarizer will produce beautiful blue skies for maximum color saturation.

The Tiffen enhancing filter is available in a variety of sizes.

Neutral Density (ND) and Color Grad® Filters

Color Grad FiltersTiffen Neutral Density filters are among the most important filters you can own when shooting either film or videotape under widely varying light conditions.

When using these filters in bright light situations, they enable you to control and reduce the light reaching the lens. Tiffen Neutral Density filters help you maintain proper exposure which produce better colors, contrast and detail in many different situations.

Neutral Density filters are practical for:

  • Preventing over-exposure when taking pictures of a brightly lit subject on a sunny day, especially with high speed film.
  • Recommended by camcorder manufacturers in bright/outdoor situations.
  • Controlling exposure under a variety of lighting conditions, while shooting at a preferred aperture.
  • Ideal for portraits and flower studies by allowing wider apertures to bring attention to your subject by softening a distracting background with shallow depth of field.
  • Perfect for action photography. Create special motion effects using longer shutter speeds; moving objects appear as a soft blur.
