Do you want better results with your pictures? Improve your color and contrast? Now XL-1 users can use a 72mm-9 or 75SSLR-9 adapter ring and enjoy the luxury of buying Series 9 filters. Series 9 offers a greater variety of filters, thereby offering you more opportunity to enhance and experiment with your pictures.

The same principle applies for GL-1 users. By using a 58mm-9 adapter ring, you can take advantage of the variety of filters offered in Series 9.

Canon and Fujinon lenses can't use the Series 9 filters but they can take advantage of the 4 1/2 filters by using an 85SSLR-4 1/2.

Polarizing Filters

Warm Polarizer Filter
Many professional photographers would agree that no optical filter is more indispensable than the polarizer. It eliminates glare and reflection from water and window surfaces, a common problem, and it also saturates color and increases contrast.

In the Warm Polarizer, Tiffen combines the properties of the polarizing filter with the exclusive effects of the 812®. This valuable filter warms skin tones and is ideal for portraits taken on a cloudy day or in shade. You can actually see the effect of the Warm Polarizer through the filter before you shoot.

Polarizer Filter
Reduces glare and reflections, saturates colors and darkens blue skies. Ideal when photographing water or through glass to reduce reflection. The polarizer can be rotated to determine the amount of reflection to be removed. When photographing scenics, rotate the polarizer to change blue sky densities from light to dark blue. Creates dramatic contrast between blue skies and white clouds.

Circular Polarizer
A polarizer designed for cameras with "beam-split-ting" metering systems. These cameras use a beam splitting prism in the light path to direct the light to the meter. Beam splitters polarize light. If a conventional polarizing filter is added to the light path, the combination of two polarizers will give underexposure to the picture. Many cameras including most 35mm auto-focus cameras require the use of a circular polarizer.

The following cameras require the use of a circular polarizer: Canon FT-B, F-1, T-90, EOS (620,650); Chinon CP6, CP7M; Minolta Maxxum (5000,7000,9000); Nikon 2020, N4004; Olympus OM4, 4T, 3, OMPC, OM2S; Pentax LX, MEF, SF-1; Mamiya MSX, DTL, TL, DSX, XTL, Auto-X.

A Combo Polarizer Filter is also available in Drop-in and Self Rotating models.

Soft/FX™ Filters

Soft/FX Filters
Soft/FX™ Filter
The ideal portrait improvement filter for photography and videography. Its revolutionary design incorporates an effective light softening technology that does a powerful job of diminishing imperfections, smoothing out wrinkles and skin blemishes - yet the overall appearance remains sharp - even the eyes. This makes people look their best. Unlike most other conventional portrait filters, the Soft/FX filter uses selective diffusion for superior image enhancement.

The Soft/FX filter is available in three densities (1, 3, and 5) for creative flexibility. Density 1 provides a subtle softening effect while density 3 produces a modest degree of softening. There is no reduction in contrast, and the filters provide beautiful photographs without looking filtered. With density 5, the effect is most dramatic on unwanted details. The details are diminished while highlights look luminous. No exposure compensation is required.

Warm Soft/FX™ Filter
Combines the Soft/FX filter with the 812 filter. Softens unwanted details while adding a warmth and balance to skintones.

The Soft/FX filters are available in densities of 1/2 to 5.

Pro-Mist™ Filters

Warm Black Pro-Mist™ filter
For ease and convenience, Tiffen's Warm Black Pro-Mist filters offer the dramatic benefits of two Tiffen filters - the Black Pro-Mist and the exclusive 812' - in one. The Black Pro-Mist creates the light "pasteling" you see when you compare the filtered shots with the unfiltered shots at right. While definitely visible, the effect is subtle and delicate, with contained highlight flare and moderate reduction of contrast. The 812 filter creates the warm, sun-kissed complexion of the model and the warm tones of the wicker and wood that you see in the filtered shots at right.

Tiffen's Warm Black Pro-Mist is the right choice when you want to convey a warm, romantic feeling. It is also very useful in outdoor open shade where there is excessive blue and control over light may not be possible. The Warm Black Pro-Mist helps eliminate the blue cast for a more pleasing effect.

Warm Pro-Mist™ filter
This filter provides the same warming effect as the Warm Black Pro-Mist, but there will be a bit more flare and a greater reduction in contrast.

The Pro-Mist filters are available in densities of 1/8 to 5.

Close-up Lenses

Single element diopter lenses enable focusing on subjects much closer than the standard lens allows. Great for detail photos of nature subjects and a wide range of situations. Available in several diopter strengths.

Available Close-up Lenses
+1/2, +1, +2, +3, +4

Split Field
Essentially a close-up lens cut in half. This allows close-up focusing on one portion of the scene while retaining sharp focus on a more distant background. The ultimate depth-of-field extension lens.

Available in +1/2, +1, +2, +3

Fog Effect Filters

Fog Effect Filter
Creates or enhances the effect of a natural fog. Fog filters have the ability to cause lights to flare and "mist" to appear where none previously existed. An even mist density is produced throughout the scene. Available in several densities (1/8 - 3).

Double Fog Effect Filter
Combines a soft fog with a heavy low contrast effect. This allows clearer detail than the standard fog filter, while maintaining a dense fog appearance. Available in several densities (1/8 - 3).

Contrast Filters

Low Contrast Filter
Consists of a special material evenly distributed between two laminated layers of glass, causing light to spread from highlight areas to the shadow areas. Lowers contrast, mutes colors, white areas remain, while blacks become lighter. Allows more detail in dense shadow areas. Ideal for slide duplication work. Available in several densities (1/8 - 5).

Soft Contrast Filter
Contrast is reduced while allowing black areas to stay black; also produces softer, less intense colors. Available in several densities (1 - 5).

Ultra Contrast Filter™
Lowers contrast by lightening shadowed areas without causing any flare or halo effect from direct bright light sources, reflections or highlights. It uses ambient light to lower contrast evenly throughout the whole scene, even in an image where there are areas of greater or lesser brightness.
Ultra Contrast Filter
Available in densities from 1/8 - 5

Low Light Ultra Contrast
Available in densities from 1 - 4

Star Effect Filters

Produces a star effect from many different light sources (sun, streetlight, candle, etc.). Available in effects of 4 point, 6 pt., 8 pt., and 12 pt. stars.

The star filter is made of clear optical glass, which contains lines engraved on the surface of the glass, forming grid patterns. Grid patterns are available in 1mm, 2mm, 3mm and 4mm line spacing.

The 1mm grid features a broad, bright star effect with long rays. Due to the broadness (flare) of the star, under certain lighting conditions, contrast will be reduced.

A 2 mm grid features a fine lined star which is bright and contains long rays.

The 3mm and 4mm grids are more finely outlined star shapes, not as bright and with shorter rays as compared to the 1mm and 2mm grids. The 3mm grid offers a slightly broader star than the 4mm grid.

Different effects may be produced depending on the distance from the light source to the filter, the size of the light source and the intensity of the light source.

The Vector Star, The Hyper Star, Hollywood Star and North Star are stars that have asymmetrical designs with lines of different brightness, for a more natural looking star.

Streak Effect Filter
Designed to enhance spectral highlights by creating a two-point streak effect. Produces an effect similar to a star filter. Improves a scene without effecting contrast. Available in all sizes.

Softnet® Filters

Softnet Black Filter
Net material laminated between optical clear glass. Creates a soft diffusion effect while causing no halation from highlights. Dark areas remain dark. Available in several densities (1 - 4).

Softnet Red Filter
Net material laminated between optical clear glass. Creates a soft diffusion effect while rendering a warmth to the scene. Available in several densities.

Softnet Skintone Filter
Net material laminated between optical clear glass. Creates a soft diffusion effect while enhancing skintones. Available in several densities.

Softnet White Filter
Net material laminated between optical clear glass. Creates a soft diffusion effect while adding a misty look. Produces halation from highlights; dark areas appear less dense. Available in several densities (1 - 4).

Sepia Effect Filters

Creates a warm brown tone and offers a "turn of the century" look to your scene. Sepia filters are available in densities 1, 2 and 3. #1 is a light effect. #2 and #3 offer the same denser color, but #3 combines a fog for enhanced effect.
